Barbara Tachovsky has been a major leader in health care and nursing at Paoli Hospital, Main Line Health and in the region. Under Barbara's leadership Paoli Hospital was named among U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Hospitals” in Greater Philadelphia and among of the nation’s 100 Top Hospitals® by Thomson Reuters;
achieved the American Nurses' Credentialing Center's Magnet status for nursing excellence; earned the Premier “Award for Quality” for providing outstanding patient care and maintaining operational efficiency; and has been routinely ranked among the best places to work in highly recognized local and state surveys. Paoli Hospital was also the first in the state to be designated a “Pebble Project.” This prestigious research
initiative is a joint effort between an elite group of healthcare providers and The Center for Health Design to demonstrate the correlation between a hospital’s design and improved healthcare.
During her time at Paoli Hospital, Barbara has overseen the major expansion of
the obstetrics program to include a Level2 NICU, the implementation of new programs
including cardiac surgery and interventional radiology, and the development of two
ambulatory sites in Exton and Collegeville.
More recently, Barbara played a pivotal role in the opening of Paoli Hospital’s
Pavilion, which marked the most aggressive expansion project since the hospital
relocated from West Chester to Paoli in 1968, and in the addition of a Level II Regional
Trauma Center, which alleviated the need for victims of traumatic injuries to be flown to
Center City hospitals when every second counts toward the prospect for survival.
For her work in nursing leadership, Barbara received the prestigious Nightingale
Award of Pennsylvania and the Philadelphia Business Journal’s Healthcare Heroes
Award. She was also named the Businesswoman of the Year by the Great Valley
Regional Chamber of Commerce and she received the March of Dimes Women of
Achievement in the Field of Health. The Paoli Business and Professional Association
also chose Barbara for their Business Person of the Year and Citizen of the Year award
and she was most recently inducted into the Chester County Economic Development
Council’s Hall of Fame.
Barbara is passionate about the patient care mission of Paoli Hospital and the
work of the hospital’s Auxiliary. Together they have supported the growth of key
hospital projects to advance the health care provided to the community.
